Tunisia: holding hydrocarbon promise for Cooper Energy.
Cooper primes Tunisia survey
Australia’s Cooper Energy is set to acquire 175 kilometres of 3D seismic over Tunisia’s Hammamet West oilfield, which holds over 200 million barrels of oil in place.
Hammamet West contains two previous oil finds encountered in separate reservoirs. An exploration well drilled in 1967 encountered a 7-metre oil column in the Birsa sandstone. In 1990, the Hammamet West-2 appraisal well discovered a further 192 metres of oil in the deeper Abiod carbonate formation.
The Aboid find flowed 33 degree API oil during a previous test but the reservoir was deemed too tight to develop.
However, Cooper is confident a well drilled with the appropriate technology may produce oil at economic rates from the Aboid reservoir.
Cooper operates the licence, which includes both onshore and offshore areas along the coast of Gulf of Hammamet, with a 100% stake.
