Llanos strike for Alange
Toronto-listed Latin America player Alange Energy said the Barranquero-1 well had struck 15 feet of oil sands in the Carbonera C-7 formation in Colombia’s Llanos basin.
Alange said tests of the interval had flowed light oil at a rate of 560 barrels per day. It said the find represented a new discovery on the Cubano block.
The directionally drilled well was sunk to a total depth of 6559 feet measured depth to reach the Carbonera-7 formation at 5825 feet total depth. The well would now be completed and equipped with a downhole pump. Production was expected to be about 1580 barrels of oil per day.
The find could add about 800,000 barrels to Alange’s proved and probable reserves, the company said in a statement.
The well lies on “Polygon B” of the Cuban block, where Alange holds a 70% working interest.
Alange also said the Careto-8 appraisal well on “Polygon A” of the Cubano block had struck 23 feet of oil sands in the Carbonera C-7 formation. The directionally drilled well struck the formation at 6238 feet measured depth and the oil-water contact at 6273 feet.
Logging of the well showed potential pay in three intervals. Alange said the Careto-8 had been completed with an electric submersible pump.
Alange holds a 60.5% stake in Polygon A of the block.
