Three die in PetroChina gas leak
Three workers are dead and another three seriously hurt after a gas leak from a PetroChina-operated well in Tongnan County, near Chongqing City, provincial officials confirmed.
A Tongnan official told Upstream the leak occurred when a gas well was being retooled on Monday afternoon.
The well was partly damaged by an earthquake that shook Chongqing province on 31 January, the official said.
The gas which leaked from the well is believed to have a high sulphur content, but local officials said there were no reports of any environmental damage or air pollution.
The leak is under control and the well is being monitored, the official added.
The incident happened at a field outside Chongqing City, in south-west China.
More than 11,000 people were evacuated after a gas leak at one of PetroChina's wells in Kaixian County of Chongqing City killed 243 farmers in 2003.
