NEG testing Sledge Hamar 1-7

By Upstream staff

The Nahabedian Exploration Group (NEG) has started production tests on its Sledge Hamar 1-7 discovery well in the South East Belridge area of the Southern San Joaquin basin in California.

The well is currently producing at a daily rate of about 42 barrels of 34 degree API oil and 58,000 cubic feet of associated gas from the deeper Olig Potter Sandstone where the well had encountered a 200 feet oil column.

The well, which was drilled to a total depth of 5704 feet, also encountered over 500 feet of gross oil shows in a number of intervals in the Reef Ridge/Diatomite section. However, this section will no be tested as there is sufficient production data from the adjoining permits to plan a development schedule.

Partner Orchard Petroleum said that the joint venture was also planning further exploration and development on the acerage. This will include additional appraisal wells in the Diatomite intervasl and the deeper Olig zone interval, the first of which is expected to spud within the next 45 days.

Participants in Sledge Hamar 1-7 are operator NEG (50%), Ivanhoe Energy (40%) and Australia’s Orchard Petroleum(10%).
