Vantage gets Aker drillship role

Location: Aker's drillships are to be built at DSME

Vantage Drilling has secured a contract from Norway’s Aker Drilling to supervise construction of two ultra-deepwater drillships at South Korean yard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).

Houston-based Vantage will provide services related to design, construction and commissioning of the Aker drillships being built at DSME’s Okpo yard.

The high-specification drillships of DSME design will be equipped for dual activity operations in water depths down to 12,000 feet and with drilling depths of 40,000 feet.

Aker also has options to build two additional drillships at DSME and may elect to expand the supervision agreements to include these units, according to Vantage. No value was given for the contract.
