Total on course off Libya

By Upstream staff

French oil major Total said today it expects first oil by September from its Al Jurf field development off Libya, although it could be sooner.

"While we are sure it will be on stream in September...depending on different factors it could be considerably earlier," a spokesman said.

Total launched development of structure B on block 137 some 100 kilometres off the coast at the start of 2001 with the aim of starting production early this year from a floating production, storage and offloading vessel. The company said at that time it saw plateau production of some 35,000 barrels per day.

The spokesman said development was running slightly behind schedule because of some dry wells hit back in December, although some of the lost time had been made up, Reuters reported.
