Shah Deniz 'set for restart'

Production from the BP-operated Shah Deniz platform in the Caspian Sea is set to resume late on Tuesday after being shut-in the previous evening due to a malfunction during maintenance of the facility, a spokeswoman for the UK supermajor said.

The shutdown of the Azeri field resulted in gas exports to Turkey being halted, hitting supplies to the country as it faces pressure to meet high winter demand, Reuters reported.

"During planned maintenance work on a power system at the Shah Deniz platform a malfunction occurred which triggered the automatic shutdown of the platform," the BP spokeswoman said.

"We did suspend gas exports from the terminal at around the same time yesterday. The platform will be restarted as soon as the maintenace activities are complete which is planned for this evening."
