The Houston-based offshore vessel owner said security personnel onboard its US-flagged Cutlass Fish instead helped thwart an attempted boarding of a nearby platform in the early January incident.
Upstream
reported on Monday that the vessel was boarded by armed men near the mouth of the Calabar River. Maritime security sources say the vessel was boarded in the early hours of 3 January by five armed men in a speed boat with the attackers leaving after security personnel intervened.
In a statement sent to Upstream on Tuesday, however, Hercules said there was no such attack on the Cutlass Fish.
“There was an incident near the Cutlass Fish in which several people were attempting to board a platform. However, security onboard the vessel verbally thwarted the attempt and the attackers promptly departed.”
Hercules did not mention the name of the platform concerned.
