The contract will commence in September this year and will extend for 180 days at a dayrate of $151,000.
The Atwood Beacon is currently working under a one-well contract for Repsol offshore Guyana. Atwood said mobilisation “will be covered by provisions in the current rig sharing group contract”.
Shemen will have the rig through February 2013.
Israeli media reports said the rig would be drilling the Yam 3 prospect in the Mediterranean Sea. Shemen was unable to be reached for confirmation.
Atwood said in its latest fleet status report that Atwood Beacon "could incur approximately five zero-rate days in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2012 for regulatory inspections and planned maintenance".
Atwood chief financial officer Mark Mey told Upstream that the maintenance would likely take place in between contracts.
"Perhaps we can do some of that en route, if we’re fortunate," he said.
The Atwood Beacon, built in 2003, is capable of working in water depths of up to 400 feet and can drill to a depth of 36,000 feet.
