Cano Limon pipe pumping again

By Upstream staff

Colombia's state oil company Ecopetrol confirmed that the Cano Limon oil pipeline has begun pumping again after being halted for two weeks following a bomb attack by rebels.

The pipeline, which is supplied by US firm Occidental Petroelum, is often the target of such attacks. The pipeline was bombed 17 times in 2004, down from 170 attacks in 2001.

Both the 17,000-strong Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known by its Spanish initials FARC, and the 5000-strong National Liberation Army, or ELN, operate in the area of the Cano Limon field, in the province of Arauca, and along the route of the pipeline.

Ecopetrol noted that production at the Occidental-operated Cano Limon field was being restored to normal levels, which are usually 90,000 barrels per day.
