Bomb hits Cano Limon line

By Upstream staff

A suspected rebel bomb blast has halted pumping on Colombia's second-largest oil pipeline, the Cano Limon, state-owned Ecopetrol said today.

Ecopetrol technicians are repairing the 110,000-barrel-per-day pipeline after bomb attack early yesterday, the 13th this year, a company spokesman told Reuters.

The 780 kilometre Cano Limon serves an oilfield operated by US outfit Occidental Petroleum.

A group of US Special Forces are based in the eastern province of Arauca, where they are training Colombian troops to protect the pipeline.

The Cano Limon was bombed 42 times last year, in 2001 it was attacked more than 170 times.
