Amadeus targets ageing Texan field

By Upstream staff

Australia's Amadeus Energy has farmed into the ageing Grapeland field in Houston County, Texas, in a bid to recover the remaining oil it contains.

The company said that a combination of poor production practices, internal lawsuits between the field's two partners, low oil prices and the absence of a gas market led to the premature abandonment of the field, which was discovered in 1947.

It added that independent engineering studies had indicated that the field should have produced 3.6 million barrels of oil instead of the 2.2 million barrels that it actually produced from the 29 wells drilled on it.

Amadeus said that this left 1.4 million barrels of oil in the Sub-Clarsville sand to be recovered and that the potential to increase this amount using water-flooding techniques was high.

The company has purchased a 50.41% working interest in the project and plans to drill a 6000-feet deep exploration well to access the remaining reserves.

The field will be operated by BoMar Oil and Gas.
