French giant Total has been given the nod by the Congolese authorities to start work on the Moho-Bilondo development, which is due on stream in 2008.

Total said that Phase I of the project comprised 12 subsea wells tied into a floating production unit housing the processing facilities.

"Expected to peak at 90,000 barrels per day, production would be exported to the Djeno terminal which already handles almost all of the country's crude oil output," the company added.

Total operates the Moho-Bilondo permit with a 53.5% stake, while Chevron holds 31.5% and and the Societe Nationale des Petroles du Congo holds the remainder.
