Candax Energy’s El Bibane field off Tunisia will not come on stream before the end of the year at the earliest after an unsuccessful workover operation to restart oil output.
“Operations are being suspended and the equipment is being de-mobilised,” field partner PA Resources said.
El Bibane-3 was temporarily shut-in following an essential maintenance and repair programme on the wellhead.
A number of attempts to re-start production have been made using nitrogen lift. Unfortunately, due to the high water-cut in the well, natural flow could not be sustained when the nitrogen lift was terminated.
A full field development programme had already been planned by Candax and PA Resources to optimise production and recovery of the reserves at El Bibane, and this programme will now include reinstating production from El Bibane-3.
The plan comprises the drilling of a further development well and the installation of a permanent gas lift capability in both the wells.
The implementation of this development programme is expected to be initiated late in the fourth quarter of 2005 and, when completed in the first quarter of 2006, will lead to higher levels of oil production, more efficient recovery of reserves and will also enable remote restart of production in the event of a temporary future shut-in of a well.
