SembCorp scoops new semisub job

By Upstream staff

Singapore's SembCorp Marine said today its subsidiary Jurong Shipyard has won a $524 million deal to build a sixth-generation, ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rig for Norway's PetroMena.

SembCorp said this is the third newbuild deep-water semisub order placed with Jurong Shipyard by PetroMena.

The ultra-deepwater unit PetroRig 3 will be capable of operating in water depths of 3000 metres in harsh environment conditions.

SembCorp said building work will begin immediately and delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2010.

PetroRig 1 and PetroRig 2 have both been contracted to Petrobras for work in the Gulf of Mexico and off Brazil, respectively. They are scheduled for delivery in the second and third quarters of 2009.
