Looking forward: PGS chief executive Svein Rennemo
PGS orders new seismic vessel
Norwegian seismic player Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) has signed a deal with Aker Yards to build a new third-generation seismic vessel.
Under the Nkr562 million ($85 million) contract, which excludes the cost of seismic equipment, PGS also has an option for the building of a second vessel at the same yard.
Aker Yards has built all six existing PGS Ramform vessels and the new unit will be the first newbuild since the delivery of Ramform Vanguard in 1999.
The new vessel will be 16 metres longer than the existing vessels, giving it higher fuel capacity and transit speed. A substantial power upgrade will also increase speed while surveying.
The vessel will be capable of towing up to 22 streamers and will include a range of technology improvements to maintain or improve efficiency of handling, deployment, retrieval and maintenance of the sea equipment.
PGS chief executive Svein Rennemo said: “This advanced vessel will ensure that PGS maintains its leadership in seismic acquisition technology, allowing us to deploy streamer spreads of extreme size and flexibility.”
