Iraq targets oilfield tenders

By Upstream staff

Iraq hopes to call the first open tenders to develop its oilfields after new oil legislation has been passed in September, the country's oil minister said today.

Hussain al-Shahristani said that Russian oil major Lukoil would have to compete on equal terms with other companies to participate in the development of the West Qurna field, a $4 billion Saddam Hussein-era deal, Reuters reported.

"West Qurna, being a producing field, will be transfered to the Iraqi state oil company," he said.
