The latest find, with a preliminary resource estimate of between 24 million and 74 million barrels of oil equivalent, boosts an existing contingent resource base of up to 170 million boe found at the nearby Frigg Gamma Delta discovery and other prospects - Froy, Lind, Storklakken and Trell.
It comes on the heels of a parallel drilling campaign by Statoil to prove up more volumes at five finds in the Krafla area that currently hold between 140 million and 220 million boe to the north of Langfjellet in the mature North Sea play.
