Statoil is closing in on the award of a rig contract to drill a wildcat in the UK section of the North Sea, which is set to spud within months.

The Norwegian state-controlled player is “currently undertaking a tender process” for the rig and related services for its Verbier prospect in licence P2170, with an award expected “in the near future”, a block partner said.
