The TOLW-1 exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 1540 metres but failed to encounter any producible hydrocarbons and, as a result, Max said the well would now be plugged and abandoned.
Prior to drilling, Max said the wildcat was targeting unrisked mean resources of 8 million barrels of oil in Triassic reservoirs in a four-way anticline.
Following the completion of abandonment operations at TOLW-1, the drilling rig will be moved to the Zhana Makat field to drill the ZMA-A20 well.
