Gazprom managing board member Kirill Seleznyov said the debt of domestic consumers increased by 40% during the last year and by another 23% in the first quarter of this year.

Seleznyov, who heads Gazprom's domestic marketing subsidiary Gazprommezhregiongaz, said domestic non-payments are on the rise despite the low price.

Last year, Gazprom's average price in Russia stood at just $78 per thousand cubic metres of gas, compared with the average of $387 per thousand cubic metres for European exports, according to Seleznyov.
