The PUK move briefly halted oil flows to Turkey’s Cehyan port in a blow to the cash-strapped Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) based in Erbil, headed by the the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

The PUK, which militarily controls the disputed oilfields in Kirkuk, accused both the KRG and Iraqi central government of not using the oil for the benefit of the population in southern Kurdistan, where the party has widespread influence.
