Saudi Aramco has donated more than $350,000 to help the Basque region in northern Spain fight the spread of coronavirus.

The funding has been provided to an aid programme managed by Vicinay Marine, Tubacex, Tubos Reunidos and AMPO to mitigate the effects of Covid-19 in a region that has the largest number of companies related to the energy sector in Spain.

Saudi state giant Aramco has made donations to various charitable initiatives dealing with healthcare, food supply and education.

Some of the funds have been used to provide face masks and other personal protective equipment to retirement homes, community centres and the general public, Aramco said.

Talal al Marri, president and chief executive of Aramco Europe, said the initiative is “a priority for Aramco, as we are committed to supporting frontline care providers during this challenging time”.
