US supermajor Chevron has sacked over 200 workers from its operations in Western Australia, blaming the current Covid-19 health crisis for the cuts.

Chevron confirmed Friday it had made redundancies at its Australian operations, however a spokesperson did not specify the exact number of job cuts.

“Like many other companies, Chevron Australia is adjusting its business in response to the immediate impact of Covid-19 and a deteriorating business outlook,” he said.

“As we implement staffing changes, our priorities remain the health and safety of our people and the community and maintaining vital supplies of natural gas to our customers.
