Authorities in the Yamal-Nenets region in West Siberia in Russia look set to prohibit arrivals of shift workers to numerous oil and gas fields until the end of June as the core liquefied natural gas-producing region reels from the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Authorities are set to ask project operators and their contractors to negotiate an extension of shifts for another two months for workers and builders who are currently at sites, according to independent regional reports.

The proposed restrictions, however, run counter to the plans of Russian independent gas producer Novatek to complete the construction of the fourth train of its Yamal LNG project before the end of this year and commission the first train at Arctic LNG 2 in 2022.
