The operator of the Chayanda gas development project in East Siberia Russia said it is not planning to demobilise workers and builders from the site despite the rising risk of Covid-19 infections and increasing tensions among the workforce.

Gazpromdobycha Noyabrsk said that protesters at the field are employed by building contractors and it is “their responsibility to fulfill recommendations and instructions of local and medical authorities”.

Authorities in the Yakutia region, where the field is located, said that contractors have built 34 temporary dormitories on site, hosting over 10,000 people.
