Singapore’s many foreign workers living in dormitories can no longer leave their lodgings’ campuses because of the coronavirus pandemic, essentially depriving the nation’s offshore fabrication yards of many of their workforce.

Manpower Minister Josephine Teo on 21 April said that the order to stay confined until 4 May would apply to workers from all companies, even those that had earlier obtained licences to operate during the current so-called ‘circuit breaker’ period.

"We know that there are going to be some adjustments to be made by the companies but we seek the cooperation of both the employers and workers on this new condition,” said Teo.
