Foreign workers employed at Singapore’s offshore and marine yards are indeed themselves subject to the government-imposed lockdown imposed earlier this week on those housed in dormitories, in an attempt to slow the spread of the coronavirus – despite the earlier exemption.

This move effectively leaves the nation’s yards without a large swathe of their workforce and creates question marks over the schedules of ongoing projects at these facilities.

The nation’s offshore and marine contractors had been seeking government clarification after earlier being granted special dispensation to remain operational during the nationwide lockdown period, which was originally due to end on 4 May.
