China’s second-largest oil company Sinopec has kicked off the construction of a make-shift hospital in Kuwait to cater specifically to the treatment of coronavirus patients in the Islamic country.

Sinopec is now turning its supply base once used for building the Al-Zour refinery, which is located about 90 kilometres south of Kuwait city, into the mobile hospital.

Sinopec is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor of the 615,000-barrels-per-day refinery, which was commissioned late last year.

When it is completed on 20 April, the hospital will have 1700 beds.
