Europe has become more “pragmatic” about its current energy needs since the Ukraine war disrupted gas markets, according to Equinor’s UK country manager Alex Grant, who warned that it is “impossible” for the energy system of today to manage without natural gas.
Addressing a panel discussion during the Upstream & Recharge Energy Transition Forum 2023 in London on Tuesday, Grant said the attitude from European authorities had changed drastically after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, in early 2022, and the subsequent disruptions to Russian gas flows to the bloc.
