Privately owned contractor Tianjin Zhonghe Offshore Technology has chartered a semi-submersible tender rig abandoned by a Singapore rig owner and is ready to retool it for jobs to install wind farms offshore China.

The bareboat charter of the rig SinoOcean Taihe — formerly known as Edrill 3 — will support Zhonghe’s growing array of offshore wind turbine installation jobs.

The agreement signed between state-owned SinoOcean Offshore Engineering Assets Management and Tianjin Zhonghe will see the rig — built by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry’s Guangzhou yard — installing several offshore wind turbines offshore China’s Guangdong province for wind farm operators China Railway Major Bridge Engineering and Poly Changda Engineering.
