US independent ConocoPhillips intends to cut greenhouse gas emissions to between 40% and 50% of 2016 levels by 2030, up from its original target of 35% to 45%.

The company made the announcement as it bought $9.5 billion worth of Permian basin assets from Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell.
