French power company Engie is in an ongoing deal to market Project Canary-certified US natural gas from Range Resources after pulling out of a $7 billion deal with NextDecade over a year ago amid environmental concerns of its natural gas operations.

The French government had asked Engie to hold back on the deal due to methane emissions and other environmental impacts of Permian basin shale, but a boom in certification of responsibly sourced gas (RSG) now allows producers to differentiate their product as more environmentally and socially responsible, as determined by a third party.
