Vaar Energi has its sights set on building either a new ammonia plant or a liquefied natural gas facility in northern Norway to take gas from two offshore fields if plans for an export pipeline from the Barents Sea fail to materialise.

The operator — a joint venture between Italian major Eni on 70% and Norwegian private equity player HitecVision on 30% — would use gas from its Goliat and Alke fields if the plant near Hammerfest comes to fruition.
