Japanese companies JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration and Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (Jogmec) have teamed up with Malaysia’s Petronas to study carbon capture storage (CCS) technology.

JX Nippon confirmed the trio had implemented a joint study on the development of gas fields using CCS technology.

The study will focus on the development of fields in Malaysia with a high carbon dioxide content, which are currently considered uneconomical to develop due to associated carbon dioxide management cost.
