More than 20 additional countries have pledged to slash their methane emissions by nearly a third by 2020 under an initiative led by the US and European Union.

In a joint statement this week, the US and European Union revealed 24 additional countries had signed up to the Global Methane Pledge, an initiative that will be launched at next month’s COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland.

Other countries pledged allegiance when the initiative was launched last month with support from the EU and eight countries — including the US, UK, Iraq and others.
