Norway has launched its long-awaited maiden offshore wind tender, opening the door for bids to develop some 4.5 gigawatts of projects in two vast swathes of water off the Nordic country.

The Utsira North area, deep-water acreage off Norway’s west coast, and Southern North Sea 2, which borders the Danish North Sea to the south, together amount to some 3500 square kilometres in water depths that will call for floating and bottom-fixed turbines.
