Chevron will launch a pilot project with data analytics and environmental assessment company Project Canary to independently certify its North American upstream assets.

Project Canary will use its TrustWell Certification programme, used by producers such as EQT, Chesapeake Energy, Southwestern Energy and Range Resources, to analyse the environmental and social performance of Chevron wells and facilities in the Permian basin of west Texas and south-east New Mexico, and the Denver-Julesburg basin in Colorado.

Chevron will also use the Canary X continuous, pad-level methane emissions monitoring units at certain locations.
