Repsol is helping clean up 6000 barrels of oil that was spilled from its La Pampilla refinery in Peru.

On 15 January, tsunami waves from an underground volcanic eruption in Tonga, on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, destabilised the tanker Mare Doricum, rupturing an underground pipeline at the terminal, according to Repsol.

After calling the oil spill an “environmental, social, and humanitarian disaster”, the Peruvian government has called for Repsol to pay for any damage caused and is determining what legal action may be taken.
