Windplus, a consortium led by the renewables arm of Portuguese utility EDP, has shipped out a third pre-assembled wind turbine platform for the world’s first floating wind farm using semi-submersible structures, offering a new lifeline for work-starved yards on the Iberian peninsula.

The last platform for the WindFloat Atlantic project has sailed away from the Spanish port of Ferrol and will take three days to reach its working location, about 20 kilometres off the Portuguese coast, according to the consortium partners.
