National Energy Resources Australia (Nera) has teamed up with research organisation CO2CRC to carry out a new study aimed at reducing emissions from Australia’s energy resources sector, while also boosting oil output.

Nera confirmed Friday the two organisations would carry out a two-phase study into carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).

The first phase will be led by CO2CRC, which will team up with Geosciences Australia and with support from low-emissions coal technology group COAL21, to rank Australian oil and gas basins for the potential use of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods.
