When the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) issued its final approval for the planned Jordan Cove liquefied natural gas export project and an associated pipeline in the state of Oregon earlier this year, developer Pembina Pipeline called it "the most significant step forward" for the scheme since acquiring it in 2017.

A number of hurdles remain, however, including strong opposition from landowners whose properties lie on the pipeline route — and who are increasingly venting frustration with both the developer and the regulator.
