UK regulators have launched an investigation into a North Sea oil and gas company over excessive flaring and venting.

The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) has not named the company or the facilities involved.

If the company is found to have transgressed regulations, it could be fined or even have the relevant licence removed.

Jane de Lozey, NSTA interim director of regulation, said: “With our support, North Sea operators cut flaring by 20% and venting by 225 last year.
