The Helge Lund-led player is taking a rig outof the Norwegian continental shelf for work off Canada, where it has alreadyagreed drill targets with local field partner, Husky Energy.

Statoil confirmed Bay du Nord late last yearas a discovery, claiming there is between 300 million and 600 million barrelsof recoverable oil. Partner Husky has put contingent resources at 400 millionbarrels.

Statoil exploration boss Tim Dodson said onFriday that the partners will begin a large 3D seismic programme in the area inlate spring, while they have also agreed on the first two well targets.
