Three leading Asian shipyards will submit bids to Chevron this week in a contest covering early engineering studies on a potential 5 million tonnes per annum floating liquefied natural gas facility offshore Israel.

Chevron became operator of the 22.9 trillion cubic feet Leviathan field after acquiring Noble Energy in 2020. Since then it has been assessing the best options to increase production from this flagship deep-water asset.

Phase one — known as 1A — of Leviathan is currently producing about 1.2
