BP faces big challenges on its Greater Tortue Ahmeyim phase two (GTA 2) liquefied natural gas project in Senegal and Mauritania, with the final investment decision delayed to the beginning of 2024, at least.
GTA 2 was set to be a fast-track scheme designed to maximise use of phase-one infrastructure, but BP, heavily influenced by the two governments, is understood to instead be focused on two separate gas projects, BirAllah in Mauritania and Yakaar-Teranga (Y-T) in Senegal.
Upstream was told by multiple sources that the delay to GTA 2 is collateral damage from, if not deteriorating relations between Dakar and Nouakchott, at least their diverging priorities, as well as a plethora of unresolved technical, commercial and security issues.
