Two Chinese yards are running neck-and-neck in the race to win the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the hull of a floating production, storage and offloading vessel destined for Shell’s Gato do Mato pre-salt development offshore in Brazil.

Well-placed contracting sources told Upstream that China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) and CIMC Raffles are being shortlisted in the tender launched by proposed lead contractor BW Offshore, which is also being contested by other participants including Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry.
