Italian major Eni has hit problems with a wildcat that was being drilled close to its huge Zohr gas field offshore Egypt.

The drillship Tungsten Explorer had been on location at a deep-water site in the Mediterranean Sea since the start of this year, according to marine traffic data from VesselsValue.

Upstream was told by a source familiar with the exploration operation that Eni encountered “operational issues” with the probe, some 45 kilometres southwest of Zohr, and decided to demobilise before reaching the target zone.
