Front-runners have emerged for a key rig tender by India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for the charter hire of two jack-up rigs to drill off the country’s east and west coasts.

Indian rig contractor Jindal Drilling and United Arab Emirates-headquartered Shelf Drilling are said to be well-positioned to win the rig contracts, two people with direct knowledge of the bid process told Upstream.

Price bids for the two jack-up rig tender were recently opened by ONGC, with Jindal emerging as the lowest bidder.
