Japanese floater giant Modec has lined up Chinese yard Bomesc Offshore Engineering to build topside modules for the floating production, storage and offloading vessel that Equinor intends to deploy in Block BM-C-33 in Brazil’s Campos basin.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Modec and Bomesc, paving the way for a commercial contract after Equinor takes the final investment decision on the floater, well-placed industry sources told Upstream.

Equinor has signalled its interest in sanctioning development of the BM-C-33 asset later this year, although it has also said the implementation of a promised competitive regulatory framework for Brazil’s gas sector is needed to provide the right market conditions for midstream investments and offtaking arrangements.
